This is the Africa’s Largest National Park which has a staggering size of 30,893km2 and hosting one of the world’s largest concentrations of wildlife. In 1982, It was designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO; and continued to be known as “Selous Game Reserve’’ the name it gained when declared a national park in 1922. Visitors to this vast sanctuary will be able to see astounding volume of wildlife both rare and common species. The park has a great river known as Rufiji River. Rufiji is Tanzania's largest river and is home to many crocodiles and hippopotamuses. It is also one of largest mangrove forests in the world, located at its delta.
The dry season of July through October is the best time of year for the greatest overall concentrations of game in this park when wildlife congregates around the lakes and along river.
